Workshop Format, Expectations and Cost

The workshop will be held prior to the 15th Annual Goldschmidt Conference
Participants should plan to travel on Wednesday May 18th, arriving in Moscow, ID by 5 PM in time for a welcoming reception and opening session that evening. Workshop activities will be scheduled for all of Thursday May 19 and Friday May 20, ending mid-afternoon that day (so there will be a break before registration and opening sessions of the Goldschmidt Conference). Participants should plan to attend all sessions.
Workshop Format
Workshop activities will include:- Plenary sessions to explore the current state and future of teaching geochemistry
- Small group, focused discussions on topical issues
- Participation in working groups to develop plans for collecting and creating new resources
- Demonstrations of effective instructional activities in geochemistry. Participants will share strategies for actively engaging students in the classroom and for providing effective and innovative lab experiences.
Expectations
Participants are expected to:- Contribute to group discussions
- Contribute to resource collections prior to and following the workshop
- Contribute to follow-on activities, e.g. development of new resources, broader dissemination and implementation, email list, etc.
Cost
The operational costs of the workshop and workshop materials are covered by a grant from the NSF Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE-0127310). We will cover the costs of the opening reception, and lunches and snacks on Thursday and Friday.
You or your department are responsible for the cost of travel to and from the workshop, lodging (on-campus and local hotel options are available), and breakfasts on the workshop days.
Our grant from NSF does not permit us to purchase alcoholic beverages, so we will collect a small, voluntary "social fee" to cover these costs.
