Description of the activity/assignment

Students will receive a written material describing how various well logs can be used in a synergistic way to yield more useful information about possible gas presence in sedimentary layers.

A detailed description of the method is done by the instructor and an example is fully worked in class. Then, either all students receive Figure 3 as a homework or (if possible) each student will receive an individual set of logs. For the latter situation, the student will then make an oral presentation of his/her findings and a class discussion will follow under instructor's guidance. Determining whether students have met the goals

Figure 3 can be compared with published results by Deming et al., 2002 and Cranganu, 2005.
For small class project, class discussion will ensure that the principles of finding gas-bearing layers using well logs were followed and a consensus about the locations and the number of gas-bearing layers is emerging among students and instructor.
