Workshop – Teaching Computation with MATLAB (and GenAI)
Application Deadline: June 15th, 2026
Free educator-led, in-person workshop — October 25-27, 2026
The America-wide Educator Workshop — Teaching Computation with MATLAB (and GenAI) — will take place in October at the Carleton College campus in Northfield, Minnesota.
For more than a decade, educators have returned from the workshop to their classrooms with new curriculum and actionable approaches that improved student learning. If you're interested in doing the same, read on.
Workshop Goals
At the workshop, educators will:
- Develop curriculum: Create and upgrade curriculum with new computational content (including AI and GenAI)
- Learn from mentors: Participate in peer-to-peer coaching sessions
- Publish teaching materials: Develop a teaching module to be hosted online — after a peer review — enabling reuse and citation
- Learn MATLAB teaching tools: Learn and incorporate tools, such as MATLAB Notebooks, MATLAB Online, MATLAB Copilot, Simulink Copilot, and MATLAB Onramp
The primary goal of the workshop is to create impactful computational curriculum. To that end, the workshop will cover the newest trends in STEM teaching – from flipped classrooms to automated assessment – with a particular focus on effective strategies for addressing and incorporating GenAI, such as ChatGPT and MATLAB Copilot, in teaching and learning. MathWorks staff and educators experienced in teaching computation in engineering and science will be on hand to share tools and best practices.
At the workshop, participants will have time and space to turn ideas into actual course content. Half the workshop will be allocated to group breakouts and individual work time, following brief talks by educator peers and training sessions introducing MATLAB teaching tools.
