Webinar: Teaching undergrads about floods: frequency, modeling, and mitigation part of GETSI:Workshops:Webinar: Teaching undergrads about floods: frequency, modeling, and mitigation
This webinar introduces instructors to Modeling Flood Hazards teaching module from the GEodesy Tools for Societal Issues (GETSI) project. In this module students learn to do determine flood frequency from gauging data and make flood hazard maps using HEC-RAS. They then apply their findings to identifying vulnerable societal infrastructure making mitigation recommendations to reduce risk.
Webinar: Using geophysics field instruments to engage students in societal applications and geoscience career skills part of GETSI:Workshops:Webinar Using geophysics field instruments to engage students in societal applications and geoscience career skills
This webinar will overview existing teaching resources and the process for instrument loans to support introductory and majors-level student learning about seismic refraction, ground penetrating radar (GPR), electrical resistivity, global positioning system (GPS) and more.
Webinar: Teaching About Volcanoes with Monitoring Data and Communicating Risk part of GETSI:Workshops:Webinar Teaching about Volcanoes with Monitoring Data and Risk Communication
This webinar introduces instructors to Monitoring Volcanoes and Communicating Risks teaching module from the GEodesy Tools for Societal Issues (GETSI) project. During the module students not only learn to increase their data analysis skills, but gain experience in the type of risk communication that professional hazard scientists need to engage in.
