Wave Interference part of Deep Earth:Activities
This activity engages students in the exploration of interference between sinusoidal wave forms. They use an interactive applet to manipulate the phase, wavelength, amplitude, and phase velocity of two waveforms ...
Using PhET simulations in a large lecture class – The Photoelectric Effect part of Pedagogy in Action:Library:PhET Interactive Science Simulations:Examples
This activity provides a complete curriculum for teaching the photoelectric effect using the PhET Photoelectric Effect simulation in a large-lecture modern physics course. It includes links to powerpoint slides for two to three 50-minute lectures using Peer Instruction with clickers, and one homework assignment suitable for an online homework system. Research has demonstrated that students in classes using this curriculum have a better understanding of the photoelectric effect than students in classes using traditional instruction supplemented by a computerized tutor.
Determination of Chlorophyll in Olive Oil Using the Vernier Spectrometer part of MnSTEP Teaching Activity Collection:MnSTEP Activity Mini-collection
In this activity, students will investigate how much chlorophyll is in olive oil using a Varnier Spectrometer. Students will measure and analyze the visible light absorbance spectra of three standard olive oils obtained from any supermarket: extra virgin, regular, and light.
Properties of Cations: Flame Test Lab part of MnSTEP Teaching Activity Collection:MnSTEP Activity Mini-collection
In this lab students will make qualitative observations of flame color, a property of metals, to identify unknown metals in salt compounds.
The Reflection of Light part of MnSTEP Teaching Activity Collection:MnSTEP Activity Mini-collection
This activity is an investigation where students experiment with reflection using plane mirrors.
Helping Students Discover Total Internal Reflection part of comPADRE Pedagogic Library:Interactive Lectures:Examples
Students learn the basic relationship of Snell's Law, practice applying it to a situation, then are given another situation where it "doesn't work."??? This situation turns out to be one in ...
Investigating Light: A Form of Energy You Can See part of MnSTEP Teaching Activity Collection:MnSTEP Activity Mini-collection
This is a short unit (including hands on activities) to expand our study of how light travels and how it behaves when it hits an object.
Light & Sound, Light Reflection Relay part of MnSTEP Teaching Activity Collection:MnSTEP Activity Mini-collection
This activity is an experiment where students learn about angles of reflection and use that knowledge to reflect a light beam around obstacles to a target across the classroom.
Creating Your Own Sunset part of MnSTEP Teaching Activity Collection:MnSTEP Activity Mini-collection
This activity gives a visual representation of how we are able to observe many colors in a sunrise or sunset.
