SERC Welcomes Three New Team Members

(NORTHFIELD, MN – October 5, 2021) The Science Education Resource Center (SERC) at Carleton College welcomes three new employees: Pa Yao Vue as Administrative & Events Assistant, Ian Taylor as Administrative & Financial Assistant, and Maureen Kahn as a new Content Specialist.

Pa Yao Vue (she/her/hers) joined SERC as the Administrative and Events Assistant in June 2021. She provides workshop support, content development, social media and marketing strategy, and administrative support to the SERC team. Pa Yao earned a B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology from Carleton College. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, journaling, and cooking.

Ian Taylor started at SERC in June 2021 as the Administrative and Financial Assistant, providing support to the Administrative Director and SERC Director, as well to the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT) office. Ian works to support all staff in the office with whatever will make their jobs run smoothly, including workshop matters and student worker supervision, among other responsibilities. Previously, Ian worked as an administrative assistant at Saint Louis University: in both the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. In addition to working in academia, Ian has spent 20 years working in and running kitchens, a bar and a spice mill.

Maureen Kahn, M.S. (she/her/hers) joins SERC as a Content Specialist, working with team members and grant partners to support the organization's mission through web content development and workshop planning and support. Maureen brings experience in research and teaching in geoscience, as well as strong visual communication skills. She completed a Masters degree in Structural Geology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, after graduating from Carleton College, where she studied geology. She has taught undergraduate students in geology, as a lecturer at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and as a teaching assistant, and especially enjoys teaching and learning in the field. She is also a visual artist with experience working in traditional 2D media, as well as ceramics, digital illustration, and most recently, animation.
