Authentic Inquiry in Courses; Research-Like Experiences Embedded in Courses
Part of the LSAMP IINSPIRE 2014-15 Annual Conference
Annual Conference Schedule-at-a-Glance
8:30 a.m., Monday, November 3rd, 2014
Des Moines Area Community College, Ankeny, Iowa
There is evidence that actively engaging students early in their curriculum in inquiry similar to authentic science leads to both better learning as well as retention of students in STEM. In the first session, we will look at examples of this type of experience were it has become an overall theme of the course and examples where it is a more modest unit of the course. Attendees will be introduced to SERC resources that describe and provide materials in support of both of these models. In the second session, groups of attendees will work together to make plans as well as find and share resources to make changes in a course.
