How to Draw a Systems Diagram slides?  

I am running a course on Sustainability and recently came across this material. Whilst the first unit was very clear, I have found the second unit to be far from straightforward - mainly because the first set of slides (How to Draw a Systems Diagram) don't seem to correspond to any of the previous intuitions/classifications (reservoirs, fluxes). Have I got this wrong?
