Retreat Logistics
Facilities
The second annual LCC4 Retreat will take place on the campus of Pomona College in Claremont, California (campus map). Retreat sessions will be held in the Smith Campus Center (SCC). Claremont is home to the Claremont Colleges, and is located ~ 30 miles east of Los Angeles. June weather in Southern California can be cool, warm, or hot! Please check the weather before arriving and come prepared. The buildings that we will be utilizing on campus are all located within a few hundred yards of each other.
The Smith Campus Center (SCC) is located at 170 E. 6th St., Claremont CA 91711. The retreat will begin in SCC 201 on the 2nd floor.
Wifi Access
Guests of the College can connect to "Claremont-Guest" When connecting to the system, guests will enter their email and be given internet access for 24 hours per guest registration.
Travel by Air
Air travelers have 5 southern California airports to choose from. We recommend Ontario International Airport (ONT) due to its proximity to campus (~10 miles away). Travelers may also consider Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) which has more direct flights. LAX is ~50 miles from campus, can be up to 2 hours from campus by car depending on traffic. Other area airports include Burbank (BUR), Orange County (SNA), and Long Beach (LGB). Please schedule arriving flights to arrive on Monday, June 3rd, no later than 3:00 pm in order to arrive in time for the opening dinner. Departing flights should be scheduled no earlier than 3:00 pm on Wednesday, June 5th, to allow time to reach the airport after the final session.
From ONT airport, we recommend a taxi or a ride app for the quick ride to campus. Those flying into LAX should proceed to LAX-it for a taxi or ride app service.
Please arrive to campus on your own. A shuttle to ONT airport will leave campus at 12:30pm on June 5th. Shuttle sign ups are located here.
Lodging
Pomona College is covering the cost of on-campus lodging in Mudd Hall. All rooms will be single occupancy and have air conditioning. Please note that accommodations include shared bathrooms, and gender-neutral bathrooms are available. Linens will be provided, but we recommend you bring your own soap, shampoo, etc.
Please note: Pomona cannot accommodate early arrivals or late departures. If your travel needs necessitate either of those options, you will need to procure a hotel room for the portion of your trip that is not between June 3rd and 5th.
If you wish to make your own lodging arrangements, there are some hotel options in Claremont (please remember Pomona College is located in Claremont, not the city of Pomona!)
For those staying on campus, Mudd Hall is located at 230 E. Bonita Ave., Claremont CA 91711. Room check-in will take place at Mudd Hall between 11:30am until close to the retreat start time. Please check into your room before joining us for the evening.
Meals
We will have a combination of catered meals during the meeting. All meals will include vegan and vegetarian offerings and other accommodations as needed.
COVID-19
We believe that time spent face-to-face establishing relationships and trust is important for building successful teams, and we are making efforts to ensure everyone's ability to participate safely. Because this workshop is being hosted on the Pomona College campus, we are subject to their policies.
