Part 1 –

Download 45-day trial version of My World GIS from PASCO Scientific and install on computer.

Part 2 –

Use My World GIS to investigate Sea Floor Age and how it supports the theory of plate tectonics. The My World software will provide you with a variety of tools to examine sea floor age. They will help you learn about which areas of Earth are oldest/youngest, the relationships between sea floor age and plate boundaries, and compare the rate of spreading from the Pacific and Atlantic ocean floors. Ultimately it will be your analysis of the data that will or will not support the theory of plate tectonics.

Part 3 –

Use My World GIS to investigate volcanoes and how the characteristics of volcanoes support the theory of plate tectonics. The My World Gis tools introduced in this part of the investigation will allow you to study the types of volcanoes, different heights of volcanoes, and different locations of volcanoes. The use of histograms in analyzing the data will help you to visualize various aspects of the data, and further your analysis of evidence to support the theory of plate tectonics.

Part 4 –

This part of the investigation uses My World GIS to explore the evidence of earthquakes and earthquake patterns to see if they support the theory of plate tectonics. Through this exercise you will improve on the My World GIS skills that you already have to learn about different depths of earthquakes, different magnitudes of earthquakes, and also how earthquakes relate to plate boundaries.
