Biofilms - FRI Research Assistant Professor

The First-year Research Immersion (FRI) program at Binghamton University invites applications for a one-year renewable, full time Research Assistant Professor (also known as the Research Educator) position, to begin August 2023. This is a unique 10-month non-tenure track faculty position that directly combines teaching and research. This position is for Microbial Biofilms in Human Health (open to Ph.D.'s with microbiology background). Review of applications will begin March 30th.

FRI Microbial Biofilms in Human Health is a program in which a Research Educator guides first-year and second-year students in innovative research that advances the field. The Research Educator shapes the research theme. Past FRI cohort research projects in this research stream have focused on bacterial biofilm (a) development, (b) virulence and pathogenesis, and (c) antimicrobial resistance mechanisms for important biofilm-forming pathogens. This position will entail guiding student cohorts (~30 per cohort) through authentic research experiences and, in doing so, will help students develop the professional skills desired by graduate schools and employers. Within that process and working with faculty stream collaborators, the Research Educator maintains and/or expands their own research program. Faculty stream collaborators include Laura Cook, David Davies, Caitlin Light, Claudia Marques, Peter McKenney, Karin Sauer, and Jeffrey Schertzer. More detail about the FRI program is available at our web site: www.binghamton.edu/fri
