Equipment Purchased with the Award

HHMI contributed ~10% to the purchase of a closed cycle cryostat for use in lab courses.

Impact of Equipment on Teaching

The system has been incorporated into Physics 342, Contemporary Experimental Physics. Groups use the system for their final projects in the course were they have studied different quantum mechanical effects in many body, complex systems. In general the system allows us to offer a wider array of condensed matter experiments to the students. These types of experiments often deal with many-body correlated electron systems, which are very complex and sensitive to disorder.
