CIRCLE Conference, April 4-5, 2022

The Center for Integrative Research on Cognition, Learning, and Education (CIRCLE) at Washington University in St. Louis is hosting an in-person conference entitled Integrating Psychology and STEM Education Research to Promote Innovative Teaching on April 4-5, 2022. We invite you to attend the conference and to submit a poster (talk submissions have been filled). Note: COVID vaccination will be required for all attendees, and university COVID precautions (e.g., self-screening, masking) will be observed.
This conference will feature innovative psychological and discipline-based education research on undergraduate STEM education, including research on equity, diversity, and inclusion. Invited speakers and talks include:
- Robert Goldstone, Distinguished Professor in Psychological and Brain Sciences, Indiana University: "Learning as hacking our own mind"
- Judy Harackiewicz, Professor of Psychology, University of Wisconsin-Madison: "Promoting motivation and performance in gateway STEM classes with value interventions:
- Paula Lemons, Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Georgia: "Supporting biochemistry students' conceptual development and problem solving through research at the intersection of theory and practice"
- Muhsin Menekse, Assistant Professor in Engineering Education and Curriculum & Instruction, Purdue University: "Reflection-informed learning and instruction: Improving undergraduate STEM education by integrating natural language processing with mobile technologies"
- Mary Murphy, Professor in Psychological and Brain Sciences, Indiana University: "Growth-mindset cultures support diversity, persistence, and performance in STEM"
- Laura Novick, Associate Professor of Psychology and Human Development, Vanderbilt University: "Using cognitive/perceptual psychology to improve students' understanding of evolutionary trees"
- Heather Petcovic, Professor of Earth Science Education, Western Michigan University: "Rock, weather water: Spatial thinking in novice to expert problem-solving across the geosciences"
- Vicente Talanquer, Distinguished Professor in Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Arizona: "Exploring and fostering student reasoning"
Applications for posters and attendance remain open and will be accepted on a rolling basis. There is a registration fee of $175 (towards breakfasts, lunches, and conference materials) for accepted applications.
