Typical Job Duties:

The Pennsylvania State University is seeking an Assistant Director for the College of Information Sciences and Technology's learning enhancement programs, including programs that support and extend learning. Reports directly to the Director of Graduate and Undergraduate Academic Affairs. Responsible for the overall management of the College's learning enhancement programs (most notably, a peer-led Learning Assistant program and a peer-led Tutoring program), including program planning and development, design and delivery of online and residential training, supervision of undergraduate student leaders, observations and mentoring, coordination of events, program evaluation, and collaboration with other units across the University. For peer-led programs, recruits, hires, coordinates, and supervises advanced peer leaders and provides job training and development for new student peer leaders. Develops appropriate assessment strategies and identifies best practices in training and development. In addition, works collaboratively with faculty members and other instructional and academic support staff to develop and administer new learning enhancement programs that promote academic success (e.g., Prior Learning Assessment, Disability Accommodations, etc.); and assists the Director of Graduate and Undergraduate Academic Affairs with existing enrichment programs (e.g., Study Abroad, First-year Seminar, Integrated Undergraduate Graduate degree, etc.) and additional duties as assigned. Works closely with the Director of Graduate and Undergraduate Academic Affairs, faculty, and a supportive learning community of scholars across campus in meeting program goals and in serving both residential and online students.

Typical Education and Experience Requirements:

Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Preferred Education, Experience, or Certifications:

Experience in training student staff, experience working with STEM disciplines, experience in an academic or academic support position, experience in higher education, college teaching experience, and an advanced degree in education or STEM discipline are preferred.

Additional Required Competencies:

Requires strong writing and organizational skills, understanding of instructional and learning support issues, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and computer and data management skills. Requires ability to work in a team environment and coordinate across units. Requires advanced knowledge of teaching and learning, with significant experience in learning support. This position is responsible for training others how to teach and coach learning effectively and therefore must be able to serve as a model instructor and develop effective curricula for training programs. Advanced knowledge of current pedagogies and best practices in teaching and learning is required.

Fixed-Term Statement:

This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with an excellent possibility of re-funding.
