Responsibilities
Research associates at BSCS are essential members of research and development projects. They work collaboratively with research scientists, science educators, and research assistants to ensure that research goals are met over the course of multi-year projects.
The Research Associate will be responsible for collaborating with Research Scientists in:
● the development and submission of school district research applications,
● recruitment and informed consent of research participants,
● quantitative and qualitative data collection,
● development of assessments and surveys,
● scoring student responses to open-ended assessments,
● data cleaning,
● quantitative and qualitative data analysis,
● and contributing to and editing reports and manuscripts.
Required Education and Experience:
● BA/BS in education, psychology, sociology, anthropology, or other related discipline that includes social science research methods
● At least two years of prior experience working as a research assistant or associate on a social science or natural sciences research project
Required Skills and Abilities:
● Internally motivated
● Flexible and open
● Excellent time management, workflow management, and interpersonal skills
● Able to work well in heterogeneous teams
● Statistical fluency at the level of basic descriptive and inferential statistics which is evidenced either through college-level coursework and/or prior research assistantships
● Able to run basic statistical tests in either R, STATA, SPSS, or other statistical software
program
● Expertise in all Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and data cleaning experience
In addition to these requirements, any of the following would be desirable:
● A commitment to improving educational outcomes for underrepresented populations
● A career interest in either education or educational/social science research and an interest in learning more about science education
● Physical science and/or biology content knowledge
● Experience in educational settings, preferably working with either adolescents or adults
Additional Information
The full-time, annual salary for this position is $48,000-$55,000. BSCS offers competitive compensation and a generous package of benefits, as well as a flexible and inclusive work environment, with a strong commitment to the professional growth of all staff.
This position requires public speaking and may include travel 1-4 times per year for data collection activities. Both remote or local work are acceptable for this position, but preference will be given to local candidates or those willing to relocate to Colorado Springs, CO.
