NSEC 2017 National Conference

This year, we will be in lively New Orleans for our fifth national conference on June 23-24. Don't miss out on hearing from other STEM Education Centers making impressive strides on their campus.

  • Start Time for NSEC 2017: 8:30 am CT, June 23, 2017
  • End Time for NSEC 2017: 4:00 pm CT, June 24, 2017
  • Location: Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans.
  • Audience: The conference is for representatives from campus STEM Education Centers or Centers for Teaching and Learning that have a STEM agenda, or those who work closely with these centers.
  • Purpose: The focus is specifically on centers engaged in improving undergraduate STEM education, including teacher preparation and broader impacts in STEM. It is opportunity for center staff to learn from one another.
  • Immediately following the NSEC 2017 National Conference, we are hosting Workshop on Diversity and Inclusion for practitioners engaged in improving undergraduate STEM education and experts in higher education change.See below for more details about this joint SMTI and ASCN workshop.

Keynote Speaker

Edward Ray, President of Oregon State University, will discuss OSU's diversity initiatives and how to engage your president in undergraduate STEM education reform.

Plenary Speakers

  • Deborah Carlisle, STEM Education Post-Doctoral Research Associate, University of Massachusetts, will discuss what we know about STEM education centers. She along with Gabriela Weaver, Vice Provost for Faculty Development and Director of the Center for Teaching and Faculty Development, University of Massachusetts, are leading the research on centers as part of the NSF award (#1524832).
  • Angela Bell, Associate Vice Chancellor, University System of Georgia, will discuss how to use data to make compelling arguments for administrators.

Poster Guidelines

We invite you to bring a poster. Submit your poster abstract by May 5, 2017.

  • Posters should be no larger than 30 inches wide x 40 inches high. You will be provided with an easel, foam board, and binder clips to hang your poster.
  • The posters will be displayed in a non-secured space.
  • You may ship your poster to the hotel. If you choose to ship your poster, presenters will be responsible to do so to and from the Hotel Monteleone. Materials sent to the hotel should arrive no earlier than Wednesday, June 21, 2017.
