Guidance for Presenters at the NSEC 2020 National Conference.

Draft Program Guide is here.

Presenters - you do not have to upload a video presentation. You can just upload slides.

Concurrent Session Presentation Guidelines (30 minutes)

Concurrent Session presentations are an opportunity for a more formal sharing with colleagues about a promising practice or model at your institution. Concurrent Sessions do include audiovisual support.

  • Each selected presentation will have 30 minutes total in a Zoom breakout room.
  • We ask that you aim for approximately 10 minutes of presentation with 20 minutes for question and discussion from the audience.
  • Each concurrent session room will have a facilitator to help moderate and monitor the chat and raised hands function in Zoom.
  • A few weeks prior to the conference, we will schedule a couple of Zoom practice sessions for anyone who might need it.
  • We will facilitate two other presentations in parallel to your session. We anticipate having about 35 participants/ in each room.

Showcase (Two 5 min presentations with shared Q&A)

Showcase Sessions are opportunities to share your successes, challenges, or plans to pilot new ideas, in a shorter format than concurrent sessions. Showcase sessions may also be opportunities to share ideas or opinions on issues relevant to the NSEC community.

  • We will have six concurrent showcase presentations in Zoom breakout rooms.
  • There are two presenters in each room. We ask that each presenter aim for 5 minute remarks each, and then engage the participants in Q&A and discussion.
  • The session is scheduled for 40 minutes and that time will be shared with another presenter.
  • Each showcase room will have a moderator to help moderate and monitor the chat and raised hands function in Zoom.
  • A few weeks prior to the conference, we will schedule a couple of Zoom practice sessions for anyone who might need it.
  • Showcase sessions will not be recorded, we therefore ask that each presenter upload an asynchronous presentation (described below) prior to the conference on June 10-11, 2020. We ask that these be made available by June 1. We will share that information via email with the presenters.

By sharing video presentations in that folder, you give us permission to upload them to Youtube (for captioning) and link those in the final program guide for public viewing. If you would prefer to share a link to your video, just email Kacy Redd at kredd@aplu.org. For example, you may have a video at the STEM for All Video Showcase or other venue.

By sharing any other kind of presentation, you give us permission to link those in the final program guide for public viewing.

We ask that you provide one or all of the following formats:

  • 3-5 minute video presentation describing your work, and/or
  • presentation slides (preferably annotated), and/or
  • add your program to the STEM Education Innovation Database. The goal of this database is to serve as a searchable collection of effective practices and programs that support improving undergraduate STEM education. It is a searchable database of promising practices. You can add your own program to the database by completing the database submission form.

As showcase sessions will not be recorded, these asynchronous presentations will be linked in the program guide for viewing either pre or post-meeting.
