Workshop Program Overview
Monday: Your academic career goals
- Learn about academic careers in different educational settings (e.g., two-year colleges, primarily undergraduate institutions, universities).
- Develop a plan for your next career stage. Set goals to move toward that plan.
Tuesday: Getting that academic position
- Improve your communication skills: the elevator pitch and interviews.
- Strategize your job search.
Wednesday: Topical discussion groups
Wednesday will be dedicated to topical discussion groups and working groups. The themes for these will be decided based off of participants' interest and leader expertise. Topics will be finalized on Tuesday and you can select up to three different small-group discussions, which will start at the top of each hour and last 40-45 minutes each.
Thursday: Building your research and teaching skills
- Learn about documenting strengths and accomplishments in teaching and research in job applications.
- Refine your plan for moving your scholarship forward.
Friday: Application Materials Review
Friday will be dedicated to small-group sessions to help you improve your application materials. Get feedback on your CV, research statement, teaching statement, diversity statements, and/or cover letters. Select up to three different sessions, which will start at the top of each hour.
