Practice with Live Scripts, MATLAB Online, and GenAI

Practice Session Setup

For practice with MATLAB and Simulink tools, including Live Scripts, courseware, and MATLAB Copilot, follow the instructions below.

Choose one of the categories and complete the practice exercises, which will help you explore the topics we covered in today's MATLAB Tools session.

Access the Workshop License

  1. To access the workshop MATLAB Online trial license, go to the Workshop License Page (opens in a new tab)
  2. Log in to your MathWorks Account.
  3. Click 'Open MATLAB Online'.

Topic 1: Design Engaging Curriculum and Virtual Labs

  1. Visit Nirav's MATLAB Drive to download the MATLAB Live Script exercises
  2. Click 'Add to my files' -> 'Copy Folder'
  3. Go back to MATLAB Online, and you should now see the 'SERC2026-TeachingTools' folder in your MATLAB Drive.
  4. Open the 'TeachingWithMATLAB.m' file and follow instructions.

Topic 2: Assess Student Progress

MATLAB Grader

  1. Visit the SERC Grader Practice Course (opens in a new tab)
  2. Click 'Test Assignment' on the left-hand side
  3. Try out 1–3 problems to visualize the student experience
  4. Visit the MATLAB Grader Home Page (opens in a new tab)
  5. Go to 'Collections' and press 'Create Collection'
  6. Click 'Add Item', and try to create your own MATLAB Grader Problem

MATLAB Online Trainings

  1. Visit the MATLAB Academy home page (opens in a new tab)
  2. Go to the 'Onramp (Introductory Course)' section
  3. Pick your favorite and work through it

Topic 3: Incorporate Emerging AI Trends

MATLAB/Simulink Copilot

  1. Visit Evan's MATLAB Drive Folder to download the MATLAB/Simulink Copilot exercises
  2. Click 'Add to my files' -> 'Copy Folder'
  3. Go back to MATLAB Online, and you should now see the 'SERC2026' Folder
  4. Open up 'copilot_demo.m' and follow instructions
