Are you interested in finding out more about research?

Interested in learning more about research? Looking to join a network of diverse scientists in Alaska? Please consider joining AK UNiTE!

AK UNiTE is a new network of scientists in Alaska focused on providing YOU (students) with local opportunities to actively engage in biological research. Our priority is to provide Alaskan undergraduate biology students with place-based opportunities to explore biology from a research perspective and gain insight and experience that does not result from traditional classroom learning. AK UNiTE is working to create a research network of local research projects with local tribal councils, nonprofits, state and federal agencies across the state of Alaska.

In summer 2021, students were matched with a research project being done locally with possible federal or state agencies, non-profit or tribal organizations, or University partners. The student and mentor jointly developed the details of the summer project.

In its first year, AK UNiTE supported 19 undergraduate students enrolled at all University of Alaska Institutions and Alaska Pacific University. For students who participated, they received a scholarship roughly equivalent to a 3 credit course ($1500). In addition, their mentor received $500 in research supplies to support the project.

Although the summer 2021 opportunity has passed, if you are interested in hearing about future opportunities and want to join our email list, please fill out the Get Involved form.
