Communities of Practice

Participants in AK UNiTE cohorts will organize into communities of practice around themes that further the aims of the project. The themes will grow and expand as more cohorts begin and seek to reinforce existing communities and start new ones. Links below provide access to more information about the work related to each theme.

Themes

  • Cultural awareness and competency - building knowledge of your own culture and the culture of others, which provides the basis for developing cultural competency
  • Connector or advocate mentor role - strategies for connecting their mentees to people, places, experiences, and opportunities that will further their mentee's biology goals
  • Group mentoring - training on how to manage groups of mentees, including group development processes
  • Giving feedback in culturally sensitive ways - training on what types of feedback are relevant to the program and how to provide feedback in supportive, culturally sensitive ways (Work on this CoP was integrated into Cultural awareness and competency during Cohort 1.)
