Network Partners
Our overarching goal is to improve the recruitment and retention of under-served Alaskans in the sciences by developing a network focused on mentorship training and connecting non-academic research partners, faculty, and students throughout Alaska. This network to advance undergraduate research opportunities in biology for Alaska students couldn't exist without our partners. To date, we have connected with more than 40 different individuals.
To continue to build this network, we will continue to support all biology researchers (e.g., local tribal councils, nonprofits, state and federal agencies) interested in enhancing their mentoring practices across Alaska. Our partners provide opportunities for budding scientists to engage in research in their "backyard." With the help of our partners, we would like to continue to bring the Alaska biology research community closer together, develop community partnerships with local research projects, and create pathways for future undergraduate research opportunities.
We envision multiple pathways to being a partner in the network:
- Join a supported cohort of researchers in implementing culturally responsive and inclusive mentoring practices.
- Partner with a faculty member to develop a course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE).
- Help spread the word and stay updated on network activities.
