Human Subjects Research

Undergraduate Research in PED

By law, all colleges and universities with federal funding have an Institutional Review Board (IRB) whose purpose is to approve the use of humans as subjects in research projects. If humans are to be used as subjects in your reseach, find the Institutional Review Board at your institution (sometimes called the Human Subjects Board or the Human Research Review Committee) and learn what type of information you need to provide them with to get your project approved. If you want more information before doing this, you can visit Carleton College's Institutional Review Board page to learn more about why IRB approval is so important and to help you anticipate what your own campus' committee will expect from you.
