New Resources for Teaching Large Classes

We have two new sets of web pages for anyone teaching large classes: a set of pages describing Mark Leckie's approach to teaching large intro courses and Perry Samson's pages on Teaching Metacognition in Large Classes. Mark's pages describe how he engages students through active learning strategies, communicates the relevance of geoscience course content, and makes science accessible (even to non-science majors). Perry's pages explain why he teaches metacognition (thinking about thinking and learning) and how he uses web-based tools to teach metacognition. He also describes several examples of metacognitive teaching that can be used in classes large or small.
