Assessment of Module Goals
Overall description: This page includes a list of assessments for each unit of the module, as well as assessments for the module as a whole. Each unit has associated with it formative and/or summative assessments to measure student progress toward individual unit learning outcomes. Unit 1 contains two formative assessments, but it is recommended that these be graded with the rubric to ensure student engagement and progress in the module. Unit 2 has three assessments; the final one (a position paper) is considered summative for the unit and a rubric is included. Unit 3 includes a formative assessment in the form of an annotated bibliography and the summative assessment for the module. Although formative, the annotated bibliography should be evaluated with the included rubric to ensure that students have the resources necessary to complete the summative assessment of the module. The summative assessment of the module involves the preparation of a standards-based lesson plan that utilizes the methods of geoscience and addresses a societal concern. A rubric is included for this summative assessment.

Summative Assessment
Summative Assessment description:
The summative assessment of module goals is the student's standards-based lesson plan 9 (Unit 3, Activity 2) that utilizes the methods of geoscience and addresses a societal concern. The Rubric for Unit 3 Activity 2: Lesson Plan and Student Handout (Microsoft Word 2007 (.docx) 22kB Sep15 14) is used to assess summative student learning in the module.

- The summative assessment of the module occurs in Unit 3, Activity 2, in which students prepare a standards-based lesson plan that includes utilization of the distinctive methods of geoscience and addresses some societal impact. The lesson plan is evaluated with the Rubric for Unit 3 Activity 2: Lesson Plan and Student Handout (Microsoft Word 2007 (.docx) 22kB Sep15 14).
