Greetings members of the AI in Geoscience Education Community. We'd like to bring to your attention two developments that you can learn more about on the website.

The Navigating AI in Geoscience Education Conference is Scheduled for February 2027

This online conference will be taking place during the weeks of February 7th and 14th.  Supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation, this conference will bring together Earth educators from across disciplines to join together in a community discussion of how AI is impacting undergraduate geoscience teaching and learning, how our teaching practices are changing, and how we chart a path forward. You're invited to check out our initial announcement to learn more.  Registration and more information will be available through the website, shared through this list, and announced more broadly later in October.

First GeoEd AI Insights are Published

The speed and breadth of AI impacts continue to accelerate.  We've made regular updates to the content of the website to try to keep pace, and we anticipate the February conference will allow it to grow dramatically to reflect a wide range of community voices.  In anticipation of this, we've started a new GeoAI Insights section. The initial set of 3 posts reflects work we've done here at SERC to help our staff build some foundational understanding about AI tools. We hope sharing these may provide some grounding for your own understanding and exploration of all the messy issues at the intersection of AI and teaching about the Earth.

We hope to see you all at the February conference!
