Using Metacognitive exercises with E-Compete: opportunities to practice self-assessment in team-building and competition

The E-Compete process encourages students to practice self-assessment across a list of competencies and skills, both general and competition-specific. It builds student confidence and self-awareness. It also facilitates a consistent assessment of student strengths and weaknesses that enhances the mentoring process by focusing efforts on specific areas. The metacognitive process can be reinforced within the steps of the E-Compete timeline, and a metacognitive activity card game provides additional opportunities to do self-reflection as a team.

Metacognitive Practice in E-Compete

The assessments and conversations that are part of the E-Compete program promote metacognitive practices as students progress through the team competition.

Metacognitive Card Game for E-Compete

To engage students further in the metacognition process, a card game with prompts is available to test out with teams.  This helps students build the habit of self-reflection and encourages metacognitive learning in a team setting.
