Utilizing "spotlights" as resources for students has become an increasingly popular approach to broaden the visibility of who contributes to science such as is promoted by the Scientists Spotlights Initiative. Inspired by existing efforts, a "Spotlights & Stories" series was previously launched in the Department of Geosciences at Georgia State University (GSU) to feature diverse historical figures, contemporary changemakers, and our own alumni in our introductory courses. Now, as part of our Sustainability Fellowship Program (SFP), a new spotlight initiative has emerged at GSU to highlight individuals working in sustainability across disciplines. Student fellows in the SFP interview professionals and draft spotlights that are created to serve as instructional resources across the curriculum. These spotlights feature individuals who share personal stories, experiences from their own journey, aspects about their current work in sustainability, and recommendations for students pursuing a variety of careers. The spotlights additionally showcase our own students engaged in sustainability internships and make connections to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. These resources are designed to help raise awareness about sustainability and real-world applications as relevant to all majors. Example spotlights are expected to be made publicly available and could be used or adapted for other institutional settings.
