More About Submitting Teaching and Assessment Materials
State Your Case! instructors submit their project-related teaching and assessment materials by completing an on-line "activity sheet." The materials to be submitted need only include those designed to advance some aspect of students' ability to develop and support a point of view -- critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, evaluation and use of evidence, effective speaking, persuasive writing, etc.
The core elements of an activity sheet are (1) one or more assignments that help students learn how to "state their case," and (2) one or more assessment methods for tracking the extent to which students' abilities actually improve. Much of the form is structured like a questionnaire that allows you to describe and situate your activities so other instructors can find and adapt them to their own teaching needs.
An activity sheet includes simple (really!) instructions for uploading your assignment and assessment documents and any other accompanying materials, such as instructor-prepared handouts, descriptions of related classroom activities, or non-graded exercises that help students prepare to complete the assignment successfully. Faculty who are considering becoming a State Your Case! instructor are encouraged to review the activity sheet form prior to, or at the beginning of, their demonstration course so they can build the necessary elements into their course plans from the beginning. Faculty are also encourage to browse course materials submitted by other State Your Case! instructors, additional ideas for teaching, and additional ideas for assessment.
Stipends are provided to State Your Case! instructors after they have submitted a completed activity sheet for their demonstration course.
