What are good materials for faculty development workshops (single-discipline, multi-discipline workshops, one-day, half-day, ongoing during an academic term, narrow or broad topic) that use resources from professional associations and NSF-sponsored national projects?

How can professional associations can reach out to community college faculty? How can we work with professional associations to increase involvement of community college faculty? How can we cultivate leadership by the community college faculty in the associations?

4:45 - 5:30 Reflection and draft action plans; whole group session: Draft individual action plans. Where are we? What are our plans? What have we learned? Gaps in prepared material? New topics that need to be addressed?

  • How to engage and motivate adjunct/part-time faculty to participate in campus-based, regional and national projects.
  • What do we need to know about community college faculty and how can we find out? What can we learn through discipline-based surveys?
  • Other topics as they have emerged during the workshop (working with other groups; collaborating across disciplines; possible grant proposals)

10:15 - 10:45 Revise personal action plan; workshop evaluation

  • Optional - search the SERC website to find what's there on a topic of your choice (e.g., serving learning, using data, quantitative skills, the two-year college interview, interactive lectures, ConcepTests, affective domain, metacognition, project descriptions of grants funded by NSF (including those related to geoscience education), undergraduate research .....), or work with your disciplinary colleagues to finalize your disciplinary work plan.
