Instructor Stories

See how instructors use the Visible Geology platform to create interactive teaching activities that boost engagement and bring geologic concepts to life.

Alyssa Abbey - California State University - Long Beach. Structural Geology - Students in a structural geology lab successfully used Visible Geology to rediscover the Rule of V's, but struggled with software mechanics and pacing during a complex post-field trip fold analysis. To better connect the 3D models to real-world field data, live group walkthroughs would help streamline software navigation.

Hannah Blatchford - Eastern Michigan University. Geologic Field Methods - Students in a field methods course successfully used Visible Geology to build 3D models from 2D maps and cross-sections, improving their spatial understanding and ability to predict unmapped structures. While the activity effectively reduced mapping errors, students required extra time to navigate the software and would benefit from a brief introductory tutorial beforehand.
