This article presents the software, A Virtual Journey within the Rock Cycle, which was developed as a microworld game meant to enhance students' ability to perceive the rock cycle in terms of a systems approach. The software is designed to help junior and senior high school students take their understanding of the rock-cycle's processes and products and integrate it into a dynamic understanding of crustal cycling. Yael Kali is a senior Science and Technology Education lecturer at the Technion, Israel. Her work focuses on cognitive aspects of learning Earth sciences, the design and development of computer-based tools, and curricula related to these subjects.
