Shaping the Future of Undergraduate Earth Science Education: Innovation and Change Using an Earth System Approach
M. Frank Watt Ireton, Cathryn A. Manduca, David W. Mogk 1997 American Geophyscial Union Washington, D.C.
This report outlines the outcomes of a workshop convened by the American Geophysical Union. Workshop participants agreed that the Earth and space sciences are in the midst of a major revolution. New research points to the many ways that the Earth system is a very complex set of interactions that belies the traditionally compartmentalized disciplines. Also, there is much new research into how people learn which sheds light on less than optimal traditional educational practices. The report puts forward a coherent educational plan for undergraduate Earth and space science education.
