This article in The Arizona Republic addresses federal officials' assessment of environmental impacts from continued mining operations at the Black Mesa and Kayenta mines on Hopi and Navajo lands. The lease for coal mining in the Black Mesa mine is due to expire at the end of the year. Renewal of mining operations and the use of water from the Navajo Aquifer are discussed.
