In this session Dr. Missy Holzer lays the foundation for Model-Evidence-Link (MEL) diagrams as an instructional scaffold. A critical component of the MEL diagram scaffold is the link between the model and the evidence and having students evaluate that linkage. Does the evidence support, strongly support, contradict, or have nothing to do with the model? In this session teachers read articles and examine the claim or model presented and identify alternatives, if present. They look for evidence statements and evaluate the linkage of the evidence to the claim or model.
