I'm planning to adapt this for an online class. Any modifications that worked well, or good ideas?

Another possibility might be a mixture of sand and iron filings? The volume ratio between the two could be varied to show a range of ore grades. Separation (obviously) would be with a magnet, but it would be best to have the magnet in a plastic bag to ease "extraction."

There was a set of modules that were designed to be taught online and tested through the Penn State global campus. That group ran an InTeGrate workshop about teaching online that wrote about their experiences here:

I'd love to hear more from people who have adapted modules on their own into an online format. Were there things that were particularly successful or hard to modify?

Hi Jim - were you replying to the 'muffin mining' discussion? Iron sounds much more allergy friendly than muffins! But I wonder if that makes the every day item component of the activity less friendly. Has anyone tried this?
(I'm going to try to move this to the other thread).
