Virtual workshop

February 18 and March 4, 2026

Time: 200 - 400 pm EST / 100 - 300 pm CST / 1200 - 200 pm MST / 1100 - 100 pm PST

Description

As part of the IEDA2 ecosystem, EarthChem and the Library of Experimental Phase Relations (LEPR/traceDs) serve as critical repositories for experimental petrology data. However, recent meta-analyses of mineral/melt datasets have revealed a significant challenge: There are aspects of the experimental partitioning database that may result in systematic bias in models based on the published data. The virtual workshop sessions are designed to provide an overview and magnitude of the problem and what "must" be included in datasets for publication, and what "should" or "might" be included. Participants will discuss these issues in whole-group and breakout discussions and plan for future work to draft recommendations for how to process and publish trace element data.
