Background Information
I just graduated with my Ph.D. from Georgetown University this past May. My dissertation was on the role of international financial intermediaries in current account imbalances; my primary fields of research are international macroeconomics and economic education. I have taught classes in microeconomic principles, macroeconomic theory, statistics, international finance, environmental economics, and money and banking. I presented joint work on an in-class demonstration of the financial accelerator at the 2011 Economic Education Conference at Stanford. In all of my classes I try to include innovative ways to present economic material from in-class demonstrations and experiments to discussions of video clips.
Related Pedagogical Projects
I am currently working on a couple of pedagogical studies of my own. I have developed three alternative methods of teaching the same material in microeconomic principles: recitation questions, in-class demonstrations, and online discussions. I use the TUCE to measure the improvement of students from each class. Full results are not yet available for this ongoing study. Additionally, I have developed a semester-long experiment to teach students various economic principles in my money and banking course.
