Background Information

I have been teaching Economics for 30+ years, the last 18 of which have been at Parkland College in Champaign, IL. I absolutely love working with students and watching them catch onto the principles we teach, and more important, realizing that economics is part of their everyday life. I was department chair for six years, but was thrilled to be able to faculty in 2010.

My life off campus revolves around family. My husband and I have three grandsons, one of whom lives with us, so we stay very busy! I also enjoy playing piano in our church praise band and taking advantage of a very active live music scene in our area, with a focus on jazz. It doesn't seem possible, but I'm planning to retire in a few years. It's amazing how quickly time flies when you're having fun!

Related Pedagogical Projects

I have been heavily involved in my college's first year experience program, redesigning and then coordinating our college success course for several years. I passed the baton to another faculty member almost three years ago so I could focus on teaching economics again. Working with the college success course has had an overwhelmingly positive impact on the way I teach my economics classes. I wish I had learned some of these things years earlier!
