Earthlabs Climate Detectives
Teacher PD Workshop
Institute for Geophysics, Jackson School for Geosciences
University of Texas at Austin
Tuesday July 7, 4:30pm – Friday July 10, 3:00pm, 2015
Climate Detectives is a 2-3 week problem-based module based on IODP expedition 341 in the Gulf
of Alaska. The 2013 expedition examined the history of past climate as recorded by the sediments
beneath the seafloor. Developed by Alison Mote (AISD) and Jeff Lockwood (TERC), the module targets secondary science students and teachers.
Join us for three days at University of Texas at Austin to learn about Earthlabs Climate Detectives and how you can incorporate this module into your science classes. The new Web-based curriculum will be freely available to you and is designed to enhance classroom learning by allowing students to explore the topics in a variety of modes, including hands-on activities, video interviews with scientists, group work, self-guided examination of scientific data, and class discussions.
- Teachers who complete the workshop will receive SBEC Continuing Education Credits from University of Texas at Austin and a stipend towards the cost of travel, parking, and incidentals.
- Accommodations and meals for 3 days are covered by an NSF grant.
Space is limited.
