Program Description

The GeoCAT (Geoscience Career Ambassador Training) project is focused on introducing and familiarizing educators (teachers, advisors, 4-H volunteers) of Minority Serving Institutions/counties in Kansas with various career opportunities of Geosciences. The project is in partnership with the K-State Geology advisory Council.

This project is supported by NSF ICER-1911590 under IUSE-GP-IMPACT.

Program Assets

We will be holding a 1 week long summer workshop, in which educators will learn about Geoscience career options thrugh interactions with the geology advisory council and project personnel, the diversity problem in Geosciences, and produce curriculum material for their students. After attending the workshop, educators (who are now officially GeoCAT Ambassadors) will submit assessment of the workshop, and return to their home institution and use their product and ask their students to fill in assessments.

The relevance of the project to EarthConnections is that project personnel, in collaboration with the advisory council can develop pathways for getting involved in geosciences in Kansas, as a resource for Ambassadors to use at their home institution.
