I started out with a very simple data collection and had the students put data into excel and use the scatter plot feature. It was good for my 9th graders.

Gwen, I would like to use your data collection with my physics students. I may add unit conversion, inches to cm and also metric conversion in excel as well as weight measurements. Just to align it to the sci standards.

Hi Gwen!
I like this lesson! I have 2 gifted and talented classes at the 6th grade level, and while I don't necessarily need to align my science class with math frameworks, I also realize there is no harm in teaching the linear function now while I am reviewing the water displacement method.
I like your lesson plan format as well.
