Participate in the 2020 Workshop: Teaching Computation Online with MATLAB

If you're teaching a STEM course, you've likely seen big changes in expectations over the last few years--more online learning, more programming, more math, and more hardware, with individual courses that must include all the above. And with recent moves to virtual learning, courses must work in an online format. With the recognition that COVID-19 upheaval presents many new challenges, two clear emerging requirements are the need for teaching computation and flexible, remote methodologies.

Over the last five years, more than 100 of your faculty peers have attended the Teaching Computation with MATLAB workshops, hosted by SERC at Carleton College. At these 3-day faculty-led workshops, participants work with experts and in peer groups to revamp their courses and transition to the new normal.

Applications are open for the fall 2020 Teaching Computation Online with MATLAB workshop

This year's workshop will be held October 11-13 at Carleton College in Northfield, MN. At the 2020 workshop, you'll have opportunities to:

  • Curriculum: Upgrade your curriculum with a focus on transitioning to online learning
  • Mentoring: Meet in 1-on-1 coaching sessions with faculty, education professionals, and MATLAB experts
  • Publish and Cite: Get your teaching activities peer reviewed and citable for inclusion in your CV
  • Community: Collaborate with and build connections to a network of educator peers all working on impactful computational skill development in their courses
  • Learn: Learn how to embed new MATLAB tools in courses to improve student learning

In other words, if you want to add more programming to your courses AND improve your skill teaching computational thinking, the 2020 SERC workshop will enable you to set time aside to get it done. In addition, you'll have the chance to learn how to incorporate MATLAB Live Scripts, MATLAB Online, MATLAB Grader, and more.
