This lesson is designed for grades 3-4. I will be teaching 22 kids at a time. This will be done in groups of 3 or 4 and we will do it in the classroom for two days. It should take about 25 minutes each day.

Teaching Notes and Tips

I have used this lab in the ocean unit with pollution and the kids love it.
I will show some pictures of the Exxon Valdez and I added the book and the black oil.
I plan on showing the class after their finding what happens with motor oil and water in a pail to show how damaging oil spills are.

Assessment

The assessment will be the student's journals.
