M. Barnett, T. Keating, S. Barab, K. Hay 2000 in B. J. Fishman and S. F. O’Connor (eds.), Proceedings of the International Conference of the Learning Sciences, Hillsdale, NJ :Erlbaum p134-142

This study assesses the growth of students’ conceptual understanding of the seasons of the Earth and eclipses and phases of the Moon upon completing a 3-D modeling-based astronomy course. Results from pre-course and post-course interviews of students showed a significant improvement of students’ conceptual understanding of these topics.
