This paper describes 8th graders learning ecology in a 6 week field unit, under the guidance of a science teacher and a math teacher. Student learning is assessed through a well-designed 'Lost Notebook Problem' in which students have to interpret a data set similar to that which they have been collecting and analyzing in their field work.
