What a Difference a Day Makes: The First Day of Class

Colleen Kennedy, Joel Schwartz, and Heather Macdonald, from the College of William and Mary.

The authors advocate teaching the first day of class just as you teach every day of class: by engaging the students in learning. They argue that this is the best way to introduce your students to the learning environment and to communicate your teaching style. They explain that how you interact with your students the first day of class sets the stage - and creates student expectations - for the rest of the course.
