This page contains a brief animated tutorial and quiz on the endosymbiotic theory of organelle genesis. The tutorial describes mitochondria and chloroplasts, draws comparisons to prokaryotic cells, and outlines the steps of endosymbiosis and co-evolution that are thought to have led to modern eukaryotic organelles. The animated/narrated tutorial lasts approximately 3 minutes. An alternative version with still images and written text is available. The accompanying quiz consists of two multiple-choice questions; the answers are explained upon making a choice.
