The Global Land One-km Base Elevation (GLOBE) Project
http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/topo/globe.html

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

This is an internationally designed, developed, and independently peer-reviewed global digital elevation model (DEM) at a resolution of thirty arc-seconds. GLOBE data are useful for many regional and continental applications, including various forms of environmental study such as climate modeling, continental-scale land cover mapping, and extraction of drainage features for hydrologic modeling. Users can select downloadable "tiles" that combine for full global coverage, select their own coverage areas by latitude and longitude, or order a full set (at cost) on CD-ROM.
