These images of tsunami sites were taken by the QuickBird Satellite. The site features thumbnail photographs of selected areas before and after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Viewers can download photographs of selected areas and make their own comparisons. Image analyses are avaliable for tsunami damage in Meulaboh, Gleebruk, and Banda Aceh in Indonesia, and for Sri Lanka. The satellite collected a strip of images on December 26, 2004 along the southwestern coast of Sri Lanka. Images are available that were collected at 11:20 local Sri Lanka time, shortly after the first series of tsunami waves struck the shoreline. They show the water receding from the first wave with little destruction. These are contrasted with later images showing massive destruction. The viewer can also see interactive photos of the Banda Aceh damage.
